In 2014 my dad was turning 70 and his health was in decline. He felt like he had little to celebrate and I wanted to show him he was wrong. So I set out to collect notes and photos from 50 of his dearest people — his college roommates, childhood friends, former colleagues, patients whose lives he'd changed, and of course our family.
I asked every one of them for a story and a photo to let my dad know how much he meant to them. The responses flooded in and they were beautiful. I collected them in my inbox, organized them and designed a hardcover book. It was a labor of love and it took me weeks of work.
